To free space for equipment and machinery, every second girder was designed without any internal columns; instead, these girders are supported by diagonals from the internal columns at the neighboring grid line. After the competition, the project was delayed as the owner had to rethink the entire procedure for waste management in Copenhagen and the future demand for combustion and the reutilization of waste.
